After their honeymoon on the ocean liner returning them from Cape Town to Southampton, Trevor and Di started their married life together in the city of Leicester. However this was a temporary situation as soon Trevor was weighing up new probation posts - one in Buckinghamshire and the other in Dorset. The position in Bucks offered Trevor and Di to be close to Trevor's family (in Holmer Green, Ivor Heath and Leighton Buzzard) and to Heathrow, to which Di's family members flew regularly over the years to come. And so, Trevor opted for the post in High Wycombe. The next step was to find a new and affordable home. They got the tip off that a new residential development was springing up on the edge of High Wycombe - a place called Downley Heights. They were immediately taken by the prospect of living close to work, and surrounded by rolling Chiltern countryside. In the late spring of 1968 Trevor and Di became the first inhabitants of 2 Green Leys, Downley, and were soon joined by a kitten who they called Cindy.
Having borrowed money from the family to pay the deposit on the house (although the new house cost just 4700 GBP this was a distinctly large sum of money for the newlyweds) Trevor and Di worked hard in the first years of marriage to pay off their debt. Trevor's job always kept him busy while Diana got a position as a teacher at Castleford primary school. When free, time was devoted to developing the garden, enjoying the countryside, getting to know the local community and spending time with family, such as the visit of Di's mum and dad in 1969.
After 3 years, the family loan had been paid of and Trevor and Di were ready to start a family of their own.
